 Coffs Harbour Jetty4Shores Project

‘Cruising’ was selected by Coffs Harbour City Council to be one of four ‘playable sculptures’ by local artists to be placed in a major redevelopment of the Jetty Foreshores area.

The concept brief was for a playable sculpture with a coastal environment theme to be made out of concrete. The basis for my concept design grew from walks I have had along the Marina Boardwalk at Coffs Harbour where I have been captivated by arrays of fish darting about in the water. In my concept design I wanted to capture this sense of cruising fish and to draw attention to the complex marine environment on our doorstep. I enlarged the fish enough to allow an opening which would comfortably fit a person – the idea being that children in particular may enjoy being ‘inside’ the fish. The sculpture was fabricated by a local company and was open for play by mid 2018.
