Platypus sculpture, edition of 15

There are platypuses living in the Orara River which bounds my home and studio, however I see them only occasionally. In this sculpture I am imagining the platypus swimming to the surface of the water. Embedded in the sculpture are elements of their habitat that I collected from the river’s edge: eucalyptus, River Oak, tree fungus and palm leaf sheath. With this technique I want to draw attention to how inextricably linked the animal is with its habitat. The base is hand carved from old hardwood fence posts, burnt and waxed.

The sculpture is available as one of an edition of 15. It is cast in bronze using the lost wax method from an original wax. Each copy is numbered and signed.
